We are SHAPESHIFTERS
a new movement company, based in Denver, Colorado, that works to examine, explore, and share storytelling through the body via movement based techniques sourced and used throughout the world.
MISSION STATEMENT
SHAPESHIFTERS creates and produces theatrical works that uplifts the human body and it's ability to tell stories. With emphasis on original ideas, we harness grounding theatrical techniques from around the world, incorporating movement into every production we do.
ARTISTIC VISION STATEMENT
SHAPESHIFTERS seeks to create an artistic home for physical performance art and encourages theatre makers to explore the ways in which physical storytelling and movement techniques can be used to augment narratives in theatrical productions.
ABOUT SHAPESHIFTERS

MOVEMENT IN STORYTELLING
We believe that movement is the cleanest way to connect to a character and tell an internal story for an external audience.
Our movement consists of a blend of performance and acting theories. Using elements of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints; Tadashi Suzuki’s teachings; Michael Chekhov’s “psycho-physical” acting method; and adding a dash of older performance methods from the Greek theatres, we create a physicalized expressionism-style of theatrical production.
We typically set our movement to music and use the psychological effect of pairing physical motion to sound in order to intimately involve both the performer and the audience in the story being told.
Shapeshifters has seen firsthand the incredible results that come from our movement being used as a solo production or as an addition to a theatrical production to enhance the audience and performer experience. We believe that reconnecting the mind to the body can produce a realistic and believable performance that reignites our childhood nature to play and explore the world with our bodies as well as how we exist in them.
